WRITING IS HARD: LET’S MAKE IT EASY

WHY WE WROTE IT

We understand that writing the perfect text messages to your members isn’t easy. Especially when you’ve got more than one to reach out to on a regular basis.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

A few simple tips and tricks to craft authentic text messages that reach your members and generate organic responses.

Writing Is Hard: Let’s Make It Easy

Take it from a writer: Trying to come up with the right thing to say is hard. Not only is it hard, but it takes time. It’s not something you can just crank out in five minutes. Especially if you want to do it right. Now, trying to come up with the right thing to say that’ll actually engage with your audience? That’s a doozy!

It’s important to design your text messages with intention. That way your customers don’t feel at the end of the day that you’re wasting their time by reading what you have to say.

The good news you ask? These four pointers will give you the information you need on how to craft messages that convert and reach more members with ease!

Don’t Be Foolish

Think about it as if you’re the member. What do you do when you see a text message from a business come through your phone? Normally you’ll glance at the preview in the notification screen. If it feels from that glance like it isn’t of any relevance toward you or your life what do you do? You either hit the delete button and never look back or you don’t even open the message. Your customers are tech-savvy and text-savvy. Chances are more than great that they’ll do the same thing. Don’t be foolish, know what they expect and subvert their expectations.

Keep It Personal

Mass messaging is the worst way to reach your audience because absolutely no one likes to feel as if they’re unimportant. The more a text message feels like a mass message the more likely it is to be ignored. Address your customers directly. Use their name, speak to their goals. That way they know the information in the message is relevant to them.

Write With Intention

If you’re stumped, and can’t think of a good reason to send out a message to a member – don’t send one! Every message needs to have a clear purpose. Every. Single. Message. If the goal of your text is to distribute relevant information (for instance: class rescheduling or new programs your members can sign up for) it’s going to have to have a different flavor of language versus a text message that’s speaking about weight check ins or goal reminders. Remember to keep in mind that your end goal isn’t to simply have your customers read your messages before deleting them. You want them to do something. You want them to engage.

Call To Actions Should Be Easy To Identify

If your customers have to guess on what they have to do next the chance that they won’t do anything has just gone up exponentially. If you’re not going to give specific directions to your members detailed in the message, cap it off with a question when a response from them is desired.

Your gym has a voice. It has its own personality. Remember that. No one knows your audience better than you do. That being said: these simple tips should increase the chances that your text messages actually reach your members. And hopefully in the long run, coming up with what to say won’t be quite as hard.
